  • On this day morning they make milk to boil and flow from the vessel.Based on the direction the milk first flows out there are many beliefs. With this milk they make "paravanam"(the traditional dish).
  • This day evening people fly kites. The reason behind it is that the direction of the air will change from sankranthi day onwards.
  • Another dish is made this day called "Pongal" Which is made up of rice, pepper, pesarapapu etc.. for Sun god.So from this day onwards the Lord Sun will climb the 7 horses charriot and travel until the end of summer. The severityof heat will be more.

Few Sayings I love and learnt a lot

  • God Does Everything For Our Own Good.
  • All that Gliters Is not Gold
  • Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
  • Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.
  • Live simply and appreciate what you have.Give more.
  • Expect less from people but more from God.
  • Faith makes everything possible, Hope makes everything work, Love makes everything beautiful. May u have all the three as u begin each day.
  • "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside.Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and excellence.(taken from http://neel-d.blogspot.com/)
  • Even crazy looking problems are sometimes real and all problems seem to be simple only when we find the solution, with cool thinking.(taken from http://neel-d.blogspot.com/)
  • When I born, I Black.When I grow up, I Black.When I go in Sun, I Black.When I scared, I Black.And when I die, I still Black.
And you White fellow...When you born, You Pink. When you grow up, You White. When you go in the Sun, You Red.When you cold, You Blue. When you are scared, You Yellow. When you sick, You Green. And when you die, You Grey.
And you call me Coloured... (Taken from http://www.sudeep.me/)

Bhoghi

  • Bhoghi festival is one of the festivals celebrated during MAKARA SANKRANTI.
  • In the early morning only everybody get up early and put a Big Fire called "Bhoghi Manta" in which all the waste materials like wodden sticks, cardboards, pidakalu(make with dung) etc.. there at home will be burnt.
  • Why they burn means to reduce all the waste materials at home.
  • In that fire heat all the family members will take in the heat(which is produced in cold whether while the snow is falling in the early morning) which is very good for health and also the bad germs on our body get attracted to the heat and jump in the fire and die.
  • After the Bhoghi manta is completed the kids in the family will be taken inside and make them sit and put oil on their middle part of the head and they take blessings form parents like "Ayushmanbava","Vidyapraptirastu"and after this they apply (nuvvula nune) all over the body and wait for an hour allowing the oil to get into the body nicely for easy moving of all the joints and clearing the pours also.
  • Then they do bath and wash their hair with Reta juice(Kunkudukai Rasam). Why the olden days people used to prefer Reta Juice for head bath??Scientific reason is that the bitterness of the Juice will reduce the dandruff and also the total body will be wetened with that juice so no skin problems occur at all.
  • After they take bath they wear new clothes putting a pinch of turmeric to them and prey god and then again take blessings from their parents.
  • Then they take all varieties of food prepared.
  • In the evening time the neighbours, relatives are called for a function at every house in which all the small children are mad to sit and pour "Bhoghi Pallu" over them.
  • Bhoghi pallu means the Red small berries(Regipallu/Arka pallu) are taken like a resemblence of lord Sun the shape, the color, the name(arka=Sun). This means that the children should be all along their life with good health and get all the good power form sun.
  • In this way we celebrate the Bhoghi Festival(first festival in Sankranthi).

Now I hope u know why we celebrate this festival.Hope u will follow them also.

Have A Great Bhoghi
